Advocacy refers to the act of pleading or interceding for a cause. It incorporates the goal of independence for the person with disabilities and may be carried out by the person, a family member or a professional. Advocacy empowers individuals to gain knowledge of their legal rights. Reed has litigated under Section 504 and the ADA as well as the IDEA. National COPAA - The Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates An independent, nonprofit organization of attorneys, advocates and parents established to improve the quality and quantity of legal assistance for parents of children with disabilities. Wrightslaw: The Special Ed Advocate - Because successful advocates need accurate information, parents, educators, experts, and attorneys come to Wrightslaw for up-to-date information about effective advocacy for children with disabilities.
